Man Sues After Rat Bite at Dollar Tree Store

When buying wrapping paper, many consumers will shop at the Dollar Tree store in order to get some of the cheapest prices. However, one man might be traumatized for life after reaching into a ribbon box at the store's Southwest Philadelphia location.

The Philadelphia Daily News reports that 50-year-old Bernard King has filed a lawsuit against the store, claiming that a rat bit him and launched onto his finger when he was shopping for wrapping paper. The man reportedly had to shake the rat around in order to get it off of his finger.

After such a bizarre incident, it might not be too surprising that Bernard King got himself a Philadelphia personal injury lawyer to represent him in his case. The lawsuit, filed by lawyer Christian C. Thompson, states that the Dollar Tree was negligent in allowing the rat nest to grow on the shelf, and that the manager refused to give a copy of the incident report to the injured victim. According to the lawsuit, the Dollar Tree also filed to report the incident to the appropriate city and state health agencies.

Bernard King claims that he lost full use of his finger after the incident and that he was also diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Yet Dollar Tree representatives are questioning the plaintiff's veracity and the seriousness of the incident.

His Philadelphia personal injury lawyer will have to prove that the Dollar Tree was the cause of the injury to the plaintiff and that the plaintiff suffered as a result of the injury. More information on negligence cases can be found through our Related Resources pages.
